Wind farm Schrepkow: MW output doubled!

The new Green Wind wind farm in Schrepkow is delivering results!

The construction of the repowering project in Gumtow, Brandenburg was completed in the space of less than a year – including the dismantling of ten old NM 52 turbines with a capacity of 9 MW and the commissioning of the four new GE turbines with a total output of 18.6 MW as well as the supply to the substations. Despite the worldwide supply bottlenecks and increasing material prices over the past months, Green Wind completed the project without any noteworthy delays, on schedule and within the budget.

Cooperation with Danish operators

Green Wind worked together with the Danish operators of the old turbines who are also involved in the new wind turbines. Manuel Lasse, Managing Director of Green Wind Energy GmbH, emphasized the trust-based cooperation despite the long development time. After all: “Overall, the approval and development marathon took roughly ten years,” said the Head of Green Wind Project Development, Franziska Göbel. “We think there is some room for improvement with regard to accelerating the bureaucratic processes.”

Conversion and mitigation

This is the first project on which Green Wind cooperated with manufacturer General Electric. They built two wind turbines with capacity of 3.8 MW and a hub height of 85 meters and two further wind turbines of 5.5 MW and a hub height of 120.9 meters.

Green Wind converted the Schrepkow substation, which the four new turbines supply, to the new VDE-AR_N 4120 and TAB 3030.

As a mitigating measure for the construction of the wind farm, old stables near Schrepkow that stood empty for many years were dismantled in cooperation with Denker & Wulf.

Disposal of 10 old turbines

Maximilian Horn, site manager at Green Wind and responsible for logistics and installation, praised the effective cooperation with the partner companies. First, the ten old turbines were dismantled and disposed of by AK Fehmarn GmbH & Co. KG. At the same time, PS Straßen- & Tiefbau GmbH from Perleberg started building roads and crane pads.

The first components of the GE turbines were delivered between Christmas and New Year. This was the third time that E-TIB GmbH from Guben laid the underground cables for Green Wind.

Power for 10,270 households

Green Wind Operations is now taking over operations management for the turbines, with Toni Koras responsible for technical operations management and René Splittstößer responsible for commercial operations management.

The turbines generate approximately 38,000,000 kWh/a. With an assumed power consumption of 3,700 kWh for a four-person household, they can thus supply power to approximately 10,270 households.

Benefits for municipalities

The surrounding municipalities also benefit from the project: For each newly built wind turbine, they receive an annual payment of EUR 10,000 from the Brandenburg Windenergieanlagenabgabengesetz (Wind Turbine Charges Act). They are also financially involved in the project and benefit from each kilowatt hour generated by the wind farm. This provides the surrounding municipalities with up to another EUR 75,000 per year.
