More Electricity from Schrepkow Wind Farm

As one of the first operators in Brandenburg, the application filed by Green Wind to change guidelines for shadow flicker shut-downs and reducing noise levels at night on wind farms has now been approved. This relates to two GE 5.5 MW and two GE 3.8 MW turbines at the Schrepkow wind farm.

The State Office for the Environment issued its decision seven days after the application was filed on the basis of Section 31 k of the German Federal Immission Control Act for the four wind turbines in the repowering project. Green Wind is now putting the measures resolved by the Bundesrat to increase electricity generation in the short term – until April 15, 2023 – into place immediately.

The German Energy Security Act 3.0, which was passed on October 12, 2022 states: “Wind turbine operators can now exceed the limits of the German Technical Guidelines on Noise Protection by four decibels and those for preventing shadow flicker. As operators are no longer required to shut down turbines for noise protection reasons, they can increase turbine output, especially between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and thus generate more electricity. Removing the requirement to shut down turbines to prevent shadow flicker allows operators to generate more electricity in the mornings and evenings.”

Green Wind’s rapid response to the amendment underscores its commitment to achieving the best-possible outcome for the Danish co-operator while at the same time making a direct contribution to improving the critical energy supply situation.
