The greenwind Group has now opened a new location in Rostock, the hub and centre of wind energy, managed by our site manager Frank Scharp (photo). In the coming years greenwind will be supporting major projects in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and this contact point in Rostock-Papendorf will enable short distances and a presence in the federal state.

Frank Scharp has lived in Rostock with his family since 2017. Born on Rügen, he has always been familiar with the north-east of Germany and is well acquainted with the region and its people. He has been working in the area of securing sites at greenwind since 2021. What are the prospects he sees for greenwind around Rostock and in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in general?

Frank: “At the beginning of the year the Rostock Regional Planning Association redefined the updating of the RREP (Regional Spatial Development Programme) regarding energy and wind energy. In the light of that, many new wind priority areas have been designated, which meant that not only I, but also my colleagues Anett Zeller, Peter Boigk, Bernd Müller and Göran Meyer have taken on new tasks in securing sites. Specific results and new tasks have also already come about for the planning departments. I myself not only work in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania but also in Brandenburg (in the area of repowering grids) and in Saxony-Anhalt (Rottelsdorf repowering).

There will always be other greenwind colleagues working in the Rostock office as well, and in the future we’d like to get student trainees interested in what we do. The conditions for this have already been created. We aim to develop the new greenwind location into a meeting point for discussions and concluding contracts with landowners from the region, among other things. In and around Rostock there’s a strong network of companies, research institutes and professionals from the sector.”
