Brandenburg decentralised

H2 supply for rail

In the Prignitz and Ostprignitz-Ruppin regions of the state of Brandenburg, Germany, we’re setting up a decentralised system for using the renewable energies produced in the region from wind and photovoltaic systems to enable a carbon-free supply using green hydrogen for various sectors in rural areas. Building on the projects we’ve already implemented in the region, we’re now driving the energy supply forward with locally generated green energy. The green hydrogen is to be provided for the mobility and heating sectors, thus enabling their defossilisation.

The region’s rail network will be forming the basis of the infrastructure in close consultation with Deutsche Eisenbahn Service AG. With the decentralised hydrogen supply, other applications will have the opportunity to benefit from the advantages of green hydrogen.

The aim is an outstanding sector coupling project with full utilisation of locally generated renewables. The utilisation of waste heat from the electrolysis plants through integration into local heating networks and for local heat sinks is also being assessed.
