At a massive height: measurement campaigns
Installing temporary test masses on a rotor may seem complex – our colleagues Viktor Morell and Johannes Fischer (see photo) are not thrill seekers though but analytical measurement engineers. Their aim in this measurement campaign is to investigate the rotor imbalance in order to ultimately reduce increased vibrations and thus prevent damage. Inspecting rotor imbalance is not only necessary after blade repairs: as the rotor blade length increases, even a few kilograms of mass can be relevant due to the lever arm. Manufacturing tolerances can therefore cause rotor imbalances even in newly installed wind turbines.
