Supply of a hydrogen pipeline
As a founding member and cooperation partner in the ‘TH2ECO’ (Thuringian H2 ecosystem) project, we’re responsible for the production of green hydrogen in a 10 MW electrolysis plant.
We use a combination of regional wind turbines and photovoltaic plants on site as well as other renewable energy systems in Thuringia, Germany, to procure green electricity.
Converting an existing 42-kilometre natural gas pipeline operated by Ferngas Netzgesellschaft mbH to pure hydrogen will enable the supply of green hydrogen in large quantities. On the user side the project initially focuses on the heating and mobility sectors in Erfurt, with two major challenges being met: firstly the reduction of carbon emissions with local electricity and heat generation in the city of Erfurt, for which SWE Energie GmbH is planning to add hydrogen to the Erfurt Ost combined heat and power plant. Secondly, the decarbonisation of the mobility sector, with the Erfurt freight transport centre being supplied with green hydrogen.
