Municipal Heat Planning for Mansfeld, Germany

Project period: 02/25 – 12/25

The municipal heat plan for the unified municipality of the City of Mansfeld was developed based on the Municipal Guideline. greenwind Innovation carried out both the planning and public participation on behalf of the municipality.

The City of Mansfeld is a small municipality consisting of 15 districts and extensive forest areas. Only two of the districts are connected to the gas network, while the rest primarily rely on oil heating. Due to an aging building stock and below-average incomes, managing the heat transition presents a particular challenge for local residents.

Nevertheless, as part of round table discussions, local companies, energy suppliers, and the municipal housing association were brought together to discuss heat supply concepts. Biomass represents a particularly cost-effective energy source in Mansfeld, as it is available in relatively large quantities within the municipal area. While its limited availability makes it unsuitable as a universal solution for all buildings, it is well suited for supplying individual buildings or local heating networks.

The heat supply for the local school is planned as a pilot project, to be implemented in cooperation with a locally based company using a biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant.
