Green Wind Engineering measures vibrations and balances rotors, On- and Offshore. And this is essential!
Up to now, our measured “record” for mass imbalance was 12 ton-metres, which is equivalent to a 3.5 t van parked on the blade at a radius of 3.4 m (see image). This load is carried around with every rotation – in the worst case over many years. Imagine a person who weighs 80 kg is standing at 100 m along the blade. This equals 8000 kg m, or our 3.5 t van at 2.3 m, additional rotating load. Hard to imagine? We can prove it!
In any case, turbines suffer a lot from rotor imbalance. A large proportion of the rotors we’ve measured exhibit rotor imbalance above applicable limits. The consequences for these turbines: Increased damage and downtime, reduced lifetime and yield. Hence, professional rotor balancing – with precise vibration measurements and systematic procedures – really is worth it.
