greenwind trains Ukrainians in measurement campaigns
In the far west of Ukraine, Gabriel conducted a 5-day training session to instruct several Ukrainian service technicians on measurement methods that detect imbalances in wind turbines. This marks the start of an ongoing collaboration between the Berlin-based company and FWT-Service LLC: The partner performs precise measurements on its turbines; greenwind analyzes the data using proprietary software and derives specific recommendations from it. Based on this, on-site service technicians can identify rotor imbalances and correct blade angle misalignments, thereby increasing the efficiency of the wind turbines.
Importance of Supply Security
The first joint project with FWT-Service involves FWT 4.8 and 5.2 turbines with hub heights of 120 and 140 meters, respectively, and rotor diameters of 156 and 160 meters, respectively (formerly Fuhrländer). After the war began, FWT Service erected and further developed the turbines at a windy site near the Slovak and Polish borders.
Living and Working in Times of War
Gabriel, now back on Berlin soil, raves about working with his Ukrainian colleagues: “Working in the mountains has given me so much. Life in a country under attack is no longer an abstract concept to me. People were very happy about the collaboration, about this direct exchange in times of war. Despite all the uncertainty—I didn’t know what to expect—I still found the time spent with my colleagues and their compatriots to be very pleasant.”
Measurements Led to Good Results
The connection with the Ukrainians was established when greenwind engineers in Spremberg/Cottbus measured and balanced FWT systems—with very good results. The Ukrainians recognized that correcting imbalances through precision measurements means preventing downtime caused by damage and thus improving supply reliability!
